Harriers - The making of a championship cross country team

By Joseph Shivers and Paul Shivers

Harriers Here is what coaches are saying about Harriers:

"Highly recommended for cross-country runners and their coaches..."
-Jim Enright, author of Flagstaff Hill

"An Instant Classic.....In my estimation it becomes the third volume of the cross country trilogy which started with"Running with the Buffaloes" and continued with "God on the Starting Line". It offers a unique perspective of the high school runner. It is the season seen through there eyes. It rings true with their hopes, dreams, disapointments and triumphs. I'm not sure anyone has written so clearly about the "feeling" of racing."
            -Coach Michael Dennisuk, Trenton, MI

"The book is truthful, it doesn't cut any corners and shows each team-mate in his true colors. The ups and downs of the team are covered. How these trials are dealt with is what made the team, and this book, excel..."
            -J. Dombroski

The young cross country team of Salem High School places in the State Meet, only to have the state athletic association eliminate them from the competition after a scoring error. Paul Shivers has been running since he was four years old and joined the Salem Junior High cross country team in seventh grade. He will be a red-shirt freshman for Ohio State University during 2007-2008.

Joseph Shivers has run cross country for the Salem schools since seventh grade. The notes he kept during this sophomore and junior seasons are the basis for this book. Joe was named to the USA Today Honorable Mention for Top US High School Seniors. He currently attends Harvard where he is on the crew team.

How did these two runners write a book?
Paul & Joe were winners of the 2005 Fresh Writers Book contest - an Ohio competition that awards a summer internship to exceptional high school juniors. Students spend the summer developing a book. After the summer internship, the book is professionally edited. It is an excellent book - you will not believe that two high school students wrote this book.
